Valve Corporation, or just Valve, is a software development company based in Bellevue, Washington. Valve is the developer of Steam, a popular digital software distribution platform, as well as the developers and publishers of the Half-Life series, Portal series, among others.

Valve was founded in 1996 by Gabe Newell and co-worker Mike Harrington. Half-Life, the popular first-person shooter, was released in 1998 and gained worldwide notability and popularity. Valve released Steam in 2003, which quickly became the highest-grossing PC software distributor.
